Help Stop Kratom Bans in 3 States Right Now

State legislative sessions are wrapping up across the country, but the fight for safe, legal kratom access is far from over. Right now, three states — South Carolina, California, and Michigan — are facing critical decisions that could strip access from thousands of responsible adult consumers.

We’re asking the Kraken Kratom community to step up. Here’s exactly what’s happening, why it matters, and how you can make your voice heard in the next few days.

Why This Moment Matters

Kratom prohibition doesn’t make communities safer. It pushes responsible adults toward unregulated markets, eliminates quality controls, and ignores the millions of Americans who use kratom responsibly every day.

The good news? Lawmakers respond to constituent outreach. Phone calls, written testimony, and in-person attendance work — but only if enough of us show up.

“Every call and message helps ensure lawmakers hear directly from the people affected — not just outside narratives.” – American Kratom Association

South Carolina: A Final Push to Pass H.4641

A Senate Medical Affairs Subcommittee will hold a hearing on the kratom ban bill H.4641 on Wednesday, May 6th.

Hearing Details:

This is the House’s last attempt this session to ban kratom — despite ongoing efforts to advance responsible regulation through the Kratom Consumer Protection Act (KCPA) framework instead.

How South Carolina Residents Can Help

If you can attend in person, your story carries weight. You must register by NOON on Monday, May 4th using the official sign-up form.

Even if you can’t make it to Columbia, you can still:

California: San Mateo County Local Ban Alert

A local effort to ban kratom is moving forward fast in San Mateo County. Local bans are an emerging threat that bypasses state-level conversations entirely — and they’re spreading.

Board of Supervisors Meeting:

Anyone — regardless of where you live — can contact the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. Officials need to hear directly from consumers about why kratom matters and why prohibition fails.

Michigan: The Most Critical Battleground

A ban bill has already cleared the Michigan House and is now sitting in the State Senate. Negative media coverage is fueling momentum for prohibition — which means we need to flood Senators’ offices with the truth.

If You Live in Michigan:
  1. 1. Call your State Senator’s office. Phone calls are the highest-impact action.
  2. 2. Be ready with a brief, personal story about why kratom matters to you.
  3. 3. Be polite, clear, and ask the Senator to oppose any kratom prohibition bill.

If You Live Anywhere Else:

You can still send a message to Michigan lawmakers.

What Else Is Happening?

The American Kratom Association is also actively monitoring developments in Arizona, Iowa, and several other states where ban proposals have surfaced. At this time, none appear likely to advance — but the situation can change quickly.

Three Things You Can Do Today

  1. 1. Pick a state. South Carolina, California, or Michigan — choose one and act.
  2. 2. Take 10 minutes. Send a written message, make a phone call, or register to attend a hearing.
  3. 3. Share this post. Forward it to a friend, post it to social media, and tag your state representatives.
