Kratom Strains & Vein Colors, Explained
When it comes to raw kratom products - powders (powdered leaf) and capsules (encapsulated powdered leaf) - our labels tell you two things: a strain (Maeng Da, Bali, etc,) and a vein color (red, green, white, yellow). Here’s what those actually mean, along with lab-measured data on the strains we carry.
Explore our strains
All kratom is the same species: Mitragyna speciosa. Strain names mostly reflect growing region, seed lineage, and processing methods, not different plants. Click a vein color to see what it means, filter by format, or map a region below — and tap a Strain Card for more products and information.
Red Vein Kratom
Harvested from the most mature leaves, then dried. Red vein strains are the most common in our catalog and across the industry.

Green Vein Kratom
Harvested mid-maturity, between white and red. Green vein varieties are available across most of our strains.

White Vein Kratom
Harvested from younger leaves earlier in the growth cycle, then typically dried indoors. White vein strains are less common than green and red.

Yellow Vein Kratom
Produced through extended or specialized drying processes rather than a distinct growth phase of the leaf. Yellow vein varieties are the least common in the US.

Maeng Da
Thai lineage · grown in Indonesia · name means "top grade"
A quality designation, not a place — selectively grafted Thai-lineage trees. Consistently tests toward the top of our catalog's mitragynine range.
Products & full guide

Bali
Grown in Borneo & Sumatra · named for the export port
One of the oldest names in the trade — and it isn't grown on Bali. The name traces to the historical shipping route, not the farm.
Products & full guide

Borneo
Kalimantan, Indonesia · the world's largest growing region
Named for where it grows: the island that produces most of the world's commercial Kratom harvest.
Products

Sumatra
Island of Sumatra, Indonesia
From Sumatra's distinct growing areas west of Borneo, with their own harvesting traditions.
Products

Thai
Thai lineage · cultivated in Indonesia
"Thai" names the genetic lineage, not the farm. Maeng Da is itself a graded selection of this family.
Products

Malaysian
Malay lineage · "Super" = leaf-selection grade
Traces to Malaysia's growing regions. "Super" means larger leaves selected and processed together — a grade, not a claim.
Products

Indo
Indonesia, broadly · UEI = extract-enriched leaf
The broadest regional label. Grade and processing terms differentiate: "Super" is leaf selection; "Ultra Enhanced" is leaf enriched with Kratom extract.

Where it all grows
Tap a region
Commercial kratom is grown almost exclusively in Southeast Asia. Tap a region to see which of our strains trace their lineage or harvest there – the matching Strain Cards will highlight below.
Compare by lab data
We can't make claims about what kratom does but we can show you what's in it. We test every batch and only sell products that comply with both American Kratom Association Good Manufacturing Practices and American Herbal Products Association standards.

See Our Lab TestingChoosing without the hype
Our recommendation: pick a vein color first (the biggest processing distinction), compare measured alkaloid content on each certificate of analysis (COA), choose a format that fits your routine (powder for flexibility, capsules for convenience, crushed leaf for tea), and let personal preference settle the rest. Lots of customers start with smaller sizes of a few strains and compare. Take a look at our serving size guide for measuring.
FAQ
Are Kratom strains different plants?
No — all Kratom is Mitragyna speciosa. Strain names reflect region, lineage, harvest maturity, and drying, plus trade naming conventions.
What does "Maeng Da" mean?
Thai slang for roughly "top grade" — a quality designation for selectively grafted Thai-lineage trees, not a place. Most is grown in Indonesia today.
Is one strain stronger than another?
Measurable "strength" means alkaloid concentration, which varies by batch as much as by strain — so we publish lab results for every batch instead of rankings. Compare certificates of analysis on each product page.
What's the difference between red, green, and white vein?
Mostly harvest maturity and drying: red from mature leaves, white from younger leaves, green in between. Yellow comes from specialized drying, not a distinct leaf.
Is Kratom legal where I live?
It varies by state and sometimes county. See our updated guide: Is Kratom Legal Where I Live?
